ROSEMARY & HARRY

Hello everyone! The last day of the year! So I have a small story that happens on New Years that I hope you enjoy.  Stay tuned in the new year for some new things happening. Stay safe tonight and I wish you all a Happy New Year!!

Rosemary and Harry

Martha told Rosemary that she had to go even though Rosemary gave her every excuse she could think of not to go. She finally gave in to Martha's relentlessness and said she would go.
She didn't say anything to Martha but she had no intentions of staying till midnight to bring in the new year. She had nothing to look forward to and nothing to celebrate.
She even gave into dressing retro for this themed party.  Martha thought that it would be great fun.
They both picked out dresses and shoes that they found in Martha's mother's old trunk. There was even jewelry to wear.
So, the evening came up and Rosemary was hating herself that she had agreed to any of this. They were riding in the car with another couple. He smelled like bad cologne and her perfume was so strong that Rosemary thought she was going to choke. She finally opened the window a little.
As soon as they got to the hall, the couple bailed out fast much to Rosemary's relief.
Martha  came around to her side and opened the door and gestured for her to get out. She did reluctantly and let Martha lead her into the noise filled hall. Old music was playing that sounded like it was from the fifties or something. Rosemary rolled her eyes as Martha led her to the front of the stage where the live band was playing. They were even dressed in their suits that made them look ridiculous thought Rosemary.
As Martha passed her a drink someone caught her eye. He was one of the band members. She only noticed him because he was staring at her. His hair was slicked back and he was in a off blue suit. His pants were above his ankles and making his white socks almost glow next to spit polish shoes.
They looked at one another and she almost laughed out loud.
Martha, pulling her away was what stopped her. They joined the couple they came with at a table. They sat down with their drinks and they all clinked glasses to start the evening off.
Rosemary couldn't help but sneak another peek at blue suit boy with the white socks and snappy shoes. She laughed out loud this time.
The couple from across the table looked over at her. Amy asked her what was so funny. She shrugged her shoulders. "The funny suits the band is wearing. They look hideous."
Amy looked over and frowned. "I don't think they look hideous. Their music is good, no"?
Rosemary didn't reply as that style of music didn't appeal to her either.
Suddenly the music took an upbeat and Amy's partner Mark grabbed her and pulled her toward the dance floor. Martha went to get another drink leaving Rosemary alone at the table. Her eyes pulled her over to that band member. She didn't know what it was about him that drew her to him but she watched him play and after they finished they took a break. He disappeared behind the stage.
Rosemary sighed wishing that she could leave. There was too many people and they were all too loud and it wasn't even near midnight yet. She made a promise to her self that she would sneak out before then.
Rosemary ended up dancing with a few fellows that Martha had found. She didn't like who she got saddled with. He smelled funny and he was sweating. As soon as the music was over she left him and went to hide by the stage were it was a bit dark. She took a drink with her and sat down.
There was a slow song playing and she felt eyes on her again. It was blue suit boy. They stared at each other and she thought that he mouthed out something to her but wasn't sure. Then an announcer came on saying they were getting close. Rosemary jumped to her feet. This was her cue to get out while the getting was good.
She saw Martha dancing with another guy and the couple dancing as well so they were busy and wouldn't see her.
The cool night air washed over her body giving her relief from the stuffy hall. She sat down on the step for a while to finish her drink. Then she was going.
"Can I join you?"
Rosemary startled.
"Sorry, didn't mean to come up on you like that."
It was the blue suit boy. "Can I sit out here with you? It's getting hot in there."
She nodded. He smiled and came and sat on the step a little piece away giving some space between them. That made Rosemary feel a little more comfortable.
"I'm Harry by the way. I noticed you when you came in with your friends. Having a good time?"
Rosemary nodded to be polite. "I'm Rosemary," she replied. She didn't want to say that she didn't want to be here.
He smiled again. She liked his smile. Her eyes cast down to those shiny shoes. "You have some polished shoes there," she said light heartily.
He grinned. "Polished them myself." He pulled at his pant leg as if he knew the pants where too short but let go of them knowing it wasn't going to help.
The music started up again. She looked at him. "Are you not suppose to be in there?"
"I have a few seconds to get back. Come with me?"
She started to shake her head. He extended his hand out to her. "Come on, it's the new year. Have to ring it in style. No fun by yourself. Come ring it in with me?"
She laughed as she looked at his blue suit with white socks and shiny shoes. Harry knew that she was laughing at what he was wearing.
"Come on, it's not every day that you get to bring in the new year with a guy dressed like this. What you think? Come?"
She sighed and took his hand and they went back in just in time for him to start playing the last song of the night before they did the countdown to the new year.
Rosemary stayed not too far from him as they played.
Then the count down started. She admitted it was fun and when the balloons fell and the new years song struck up she found her self singing along with Harry.
After the song was done, they looked at each other and Harry very bravely leaned over and quickly kissed her. "Happy New Year Rosemary!"
He smiled and she couldn't help but smile back. "Happy New Year Harry!"
The new year started off better than the way the year had ended for Rosemary. Harry and Rosemary spent the rest of the night together celebrating the new year. He even got a chance to dance with Rosemary while the band played.
Rosemary even liked his suit with his white socks and shiny shoes.

CHRISTMAS!

Today I dug out some Xmas poems that I hope you will like. I hope that you all had a very good year and wish you all the best in 2016! I hope to be bringing you some novels this year that I will be publishing in the new year. Take care and keep warm.

Memories

We remember past gatherings and the laughs shared.

The smells of Xmas fill our memories with excitement and joy.

The race to the tree Xmas morning to see what Santa brought brings memories to our young hearts.

Keep the memories of the past and the present alive.

Memories are the best gifts we have.

Sugar Cookie Dreams

Red and green sugar glitter over the stars, bells, and wreath shapes.

Lovingly placed on the cookie sheet.

Butter.

Vanilla.

Flour.

Time spent mixing, tasting along with smiles and laughter over the kitchen table.

Memories baked with care and packaged lovingly in pretty boxes.

Make that special plate for Santa?

Taste the sugar, vanilla and crunchy toppings and dream sugar cookie dreams.

Merry Christmas!

FLASH FICTION-THE FELINE SNOW QUEEN

Hello everyone. Today I have some cat flash fiction that I hope you will enjoy. I hope you are fine and have a great weekend!

The Feline Snow Queen

She prowls the winter forest and rules her territory with a fierceness that leaves her no one to challenge her. Her ice blue eyes are as cold as the winter's night.
When  the night of the winter solstice arrived, she summoned her subjects to celebrate.  Other feline lords came to honor the night and her.
There was a great feast. Even the faeries of the winter court joined them and celebrated.
The queen showered them with gifts for their loyalty. They all were quite happy and most willing to give her their loyalty.
The winter court could be challenging but she never minded them. At the end of the day, the forest was hers and they dared not challenge that.
However, there was whispers that had reached her ears telling her of another one that called himself king of his forest. It was next to hers.
She would seek him out and see for herself. Maybe she would fancy him or not.
The feline snow queen would keep her territory no matter what anyway. She would share with no one.
It was the witching hours when he showed up. She didn't have to seek him out after all. He sat down without fear and joined in the feast. The winter faeries wanted bloodshed between them but she put her paw down. She knew that would just be amusement to them.
They eyed each other carefully until one of the winter faeries smashed a glass on the table to get things livened up. Felines of the forest hissed and chased the winter faeries out of the queen's forest.
After the brawl had ended, the queen looked over and he was gone.
Left in his place was a silver stone. She sniffed it. One of the remaining winter faeries came over and eyed it and then looked at her.
"He left you a gift of friendship." The faerie picked it up and in it's little hand, eyed it carefully and appeared to be weighing it in his hand. It's pale silver eyes went back to her. "It has much magic in it. I would be careful with it. Don't trust the feline king." With that he dropped it and vanished into the winter night.
The snow queen sniffed the silver ball. It laid in the snow and sparkled with the snow. She backed up and watched it.
Everyone now was gone and one of the forest felines came up next to her. "Take it away from here and put it back in his forest. I don't trust it."
The forest feline did and the next day when she got up she got word that the forest feline had not come back.
Stories circulated that he had turned into a bird. The winter faerie was right.
The feline queen hissed.
She was now challenged for the first time.

FLASH FICTION-THE PINK MOON

Hello everyone. Today I have flash fiction that is on the whimsy side. I hope you enjoy. Have a great weekend!

The Pink Moon

It was rare so we decided to have a picnic by the lake under the pink moon.
We made cucumber sandwiches, cut cheese into small cubes and made jam cookies for dessert.
You brought red wine that you made. Instead of wine glasses we took tea cups.
I had a blanket so we were all set.
When we got there a breeze had picked up and out one end of the blanket didn't want to stay down but along came a rabbit and he said that he would sit at the end if he could have one of our cucumber sandwiches.
We said yes. He enjoyed the sandwich and we also offered him some wine in another tea cup. It was chipped but he didn't seem to mind.
We talked about the summer and we all agreed we were sad to see it getting close to the end. But for now this night was perfect.
We ate out cookies and got our fingers sticky. We forgot the napkins and had to lick out fingers.
The wind had gone down so the rabbit thanked us for the cucumber sandwich and wine and went on his way wishing us well.
We packed up out stuff. The wine had stained the tea cups but that was okay.

On our way back we promised each other that we would do this again, even if there was no pink moon.

FLASH FICTION - PRETTY AS YOU

Good day everyone and hope it is warmer where you are than where I am. I have a short flash fiction price today. Hope you enjoy!

Pretty As You

I was so surprised when you gave them to me. They arrived on a day that I was sad.
My days before were dark and stormy. Things in my life were a challenge and when we talked I dumped on you. You listened.
Now my days are starting to see the light.
I invited you over to thank you.
You came and we had coffee with those awful donuts that you like.
I placed the flowers on the table.
You smiled at me pleased that I loved them.
We sat and talked for a while and then you said you wanted to take me out.
I was surprised. You told me if I said yes, you would buy me more flowers.
I told you that you didn't have to do that. I would go out with you.
But when we went out to the movies, you gave me more pink flowers.
You said I was as pretty as they were so you had to get them.
I thanked you for all you did. My dark days were now behind me.
We spent that day together and your sunshine shone on me all day
You said you loved me.

THE POET

Hello, I hope it's nice where you are. Today is our first snow storm. Today I'm changing things up a bit and posting a poem that I wrote some time ago. Hope you enjoy!

The Poet

She, who is a fairy, sits in my tree and writes poems on leaves.
After she is done, she sends the leaves into the wind only to have the wind's whispers lose the words.
She continues to write regardless, determined her work will reach their destination.
I watch her through the window wondering what she writes.
Who is she writing to?
She reveals nothing.

She stops and ponders for a moment. I'm sure she is carefully pondering her words in her mind in perfect sequence.
Perhaps melancholy thoughts seen through golden sunshine fills her poetic eyes.
She gives me a wink.
She continues to write on emerald green leaves.
Once again she send her poems into the wind.
She scolds the wind. Not this time.
The wind whips around her giving her promises in the summer breeze.

Once again the wind's whispers loses her words in the wind.
Oh well...
She flutters up holding onto a leaf in her hand and off she goes chasing the wind and her poems.

FLASH FICTION-WE'LL FLY AWAY TOGETHER

Hello everyone and hope your day is going well. Today is a flash fiction piece and I hope you enjoy! Have a great weekend!

We'll Fly Away Together

It was a curse put on them by a scorned lover.
What was meant to be, turned out to be not true. But Folia would not have it. When she found out that her intended to be was seeing someone in secret, she vowed she would get revenge for her broken heart.
So, Folia went on a trip to see a wise old witch. It was a hard trip and she almost did not make it.
But she did.
The old witch was dubious of anybody from the valley. They all hated her and scorned her. So, when she saw this young girl at her steps, she was suspicious.
Folia told her story to the witch and then she understood why she was on her door step.
"My child, I'm sorry for your broken heart. You have traveled along ways to come see me to help you. I will grant you one wish."
Folia was happy. She told the old witch to kill them both.
The witch nodded and then added. "For every wish I grant, I ask for something in return."
"If it's money or gold, I can give you plenty of that."
The old witch smiled. "I have no need of money or gold. But there is one thing that you have that I would like."
"What is it?"
"Your beauty. If I had your beauty, I could leave here and live somewhere else and no one would no what I am."
Folia shook her head. "What would become of me?"
"You are rich and you don't need your beauty. Your family will take care of you."
Folia shook her head. "I will not do that. I will keep my own self."
"Then we have no deal," said the witch.
"Can't you think of something else?"
The witch thought for a moment. "How about I receive your beauty after you die. Then you will have no need for it then."
Folia thought about the old witch's proposal. "I could live a long time and my beauty might fade as I age."
"I believe you will age quite nicely and your beauty will still shine."
Folia grinned. "Fine, you can have my beauty when I die."
The old witch smiled. "Then your wish is granted."
Folia left quite happy but just before she made it home, she fell off one of the paths that she was climbing down and hit her head. By the time anyone found her, she was dead.
The witch was now beautiful and living in another city. She was very happy.
As for the two lovers, the witch did carry out her promise but instead of killing them she turned them into identical butterflies.
The lovers she knew would fly off together.
Their life would last for as long as fate would let them be.
Butterflies were delicate creatures she knew.

FLASH FICTION-THE VIOLINIST

Hello everyone! I found this lovely pic of a violin and thought of the of the person playing it. Hope you enjoy it. Have a great weekend!

The Violinist

His playing sounded magical. Some thought he was. In any case, to see and hear him play was something one did not forget.
Maria was one soul who fell in love with the violinist. She had traveled far to come hear him this night.
Maria was hoping that this would be her night with him.
She dressed in her finest gown and did her hair and makeup to the best.
When he played, the room was transformed into another world. It was like no other.
When he finished she went to find him backstage. She stopped short when she found him.
He was cleaning his violin, preparing to play the next set. Maria couldn't go towards him for some reason. It felt like there was some invisible wall between them.
Maria tried to get his attention but her voice was silent.
He got up and now she thought he would see her. But he walked away from her, not glancing her way.
Once again he played and enchanted everybody. Maria was unhappy now and did not even listen to him.
She left before the concert was even over. Maria sat on a bench outside the theatre.
People were leaving now so she guessed that the concert was now over.
Maria got up and went to leave when she heard music.
She turned around and there he was playing-for her.
Maria stood in shock and watched him. It was a mournful peace and it made her heart ache.
When he finished he smiled at her. She started to come towards him but he held up his hand stopping her.
He took up his bow and struck the violin making quick short notes and then he did a fast run. She did not understand what he was doing.
When he finally finished, he came up to her and took her hand and kissed each finger.
Her insides melted.
Slowly, he bent near and kissed her cheek. Then whispered in her ear. "You fell in love with magic."
Maria couldn't say anything and watched him disappear into the shadows. She heard his violin play in the distance.

FLASH FICTION-HALLOWS EVE

Hello and hope all is well. Since Halloween is coming up, I thought I would post something that was in celebration of the night. I hope you enjoy.

Hallow eves

It was a strange time of the year. The veils of magic would be down on this night.
That meant one thing
He would come.
It wasn't really as scary as some might think and not as scary as the night I met him.
I remember that night like it was yesterday. I dressed as a vampire faerie. We had been to a party and it was like 2:00 am when I got home.
Before I got into the house I noticed a black cat sitting on the roof of the garage. I smiled to myself thinking about how appropriate that was, a black cat out on Halloween.
It saw me and leaped down when I went up the first steps of the porch.
I thought it was going to run away but instead it came towards me with no fear.
My eyes transfixed on it as it got closer and within three feet, it sat down and stared at me.
I knew something was different with this black cat. The cat gave me the shivers with it's green emerald eyes that glowed in the moon's light.
"Did you have a good evening?"
I startled when I heard the words. It's mouth never moved.
It let out a little purr noise and then asked again.
All I could do was nod and stare.
"That's nice but I bet I could show you a better time. Would you like that?"
I looked around and didn't see any one talking to me.
The cat stared at me.
"I should get inside," I said quickly. I fumbled in my purse trying to find my keys.
A sigh drifted over to me. I looked at the cat out the corner of my eye. "You don't really want to go inside, do you?"
I was a bit shaky now. My keys were not to be found.
"Follow me."
He leaped down off the porch and headed to the back yard.
I don't know why but I followed him.
With a blink of an eye he had transformed into a tall young man. The green eyes were still the same.
With a flick of his fingers the trees suddenly came to life. Others came out behind as if coming through a door.
I froze.
He came up to me an took my hand. "It's okay," he whispered.
There were strange things that came from behind the trees. Black cats that walked on two feet and others that walked on all fours and were as tall as a large dog. Their ears had long tufts on them. The eyes shimmered silver.
I guess they were girls. They wore long leather dresses and their hair was died all kinds of colors. Long nails kept me away from them. They were painted red and black and some blue. It looked freaky.
They didn't appear to want to come near me which I was relieved. He stayed by my side and handed me a glass of wine. I looked down at it and then up at him.
He was grinning. "It's safe," was all he said.
Music came from somewhere. They started to dance with each other.
I danced with him under the silver moon's light.
The frost in the air was settling on the grass. Our feet crunched as we danced. My bare arms were getting cold and I wanted to go inside.
Without me asking, he escorted me to the house porch and we stood under the porch light. His black hair appeared like cat fur. I almost touched it but pulled my hand back.
"I would like to see you again, if that is okay. I like you."
I nodded and he handed me my keys.
I went inside and the door shut separating us.
My feet took up to my room as fast as they could go. I went to my window and looked out and all I saw was a white mist hovering over the back yard and a black cat disappearing into the mist.
Now, it was that time again. I dressed up this year as a dear. My friend did the makeup. I couldn't wait for him to see my costume.
I waited on the porch.
As silent as a cat, he leaped up and was behind me. When I turned around he was dressed all in his finest. A suit with coattails.
He smiled and looked me over. "How lovely, a little dear."
I looked him over. "You're dressed to the nigh. What's the occasion?"
He grinned and his green eyes sparked. "You shall see."
A shiver raced up my spine.
He escorted me out to the back yard. Paper lanterns hovered in the air all around the yard. We were the only ones there. I looked at him. He was not giving anything away.
He swirled around and out of his black tails came out a large black cat that smiled at me.
"Meet Midnight. She has wanted to meet you for a while now."
I felt like prey the way she slinked around me. She had long white tufts on her ears and fluffy tufts on each side of her cheeks. Her eyes glowed gold. Even though the grass was frozen, she made no noise as she came closer to me. Her nose twitched.
I looked from her to him hoping that he would come between us.
She stopped in front of meI held  my breath.
Her nose was sniffing the air or me. I wasn't sure.
He came up behind her. "What do you think of her?"
She purred. "She's wonderful. I know why you like her."
He smiled pleased that she was pleased. I just wondered what they had in mind.
In a blink he was whisking me off across the yard to the edge of the trees. My heart thumped. He leaned against the tree and held out a staff for me to take. "Take this and you will become one of us. Be with me always and not just once a year. Take a hold of it." He held it out.
I could hear her coming up behind even though she made no noise.
"I can't, " I stuttered. "I live here."
He frowned and when he did he looked dangerous. I was almost going to cry when he came up to me. "It's okay dear. No fear.  Let's make a deal. You don't have to come this time but when this time comes around again, I will come the day before this night and come get you. Okay?" He tapped his chin. "Let's see. We have to mark the occasion with something tonight. Take my staff and that will be your reminder."
Without thinking I took the staff and that's when the other side opened. I screamed and dropped the staff and ran.
I ran across the yard so fast. I heard a growl and a curse behind me. I made it inside the house. I locked the door and ran to my room. I looked out the window and saw him. He was pacing back and forth. She sat a ways a way looking up my way.
The mist came in swirling around his ankles. It started to rise and almost swallowed him up. I watched him intensely.
Then our eyes met.
He wanted me back out there but I shook my head.
I don't know how much time passed but I must have fell a sleep on my bed when I heard something. It sounded like it was just outside my window.
When I looked there was a black cat sitting outside my window. I knew it was him. I looked at the time. It was almost five.
I went up to the window. He looked at me but it didn't seem like it was him. He was just a black cat.
A weak mew made me open the window.
He hopped in and onto my bed. He washed a paw and curled up and went to sleep.
I went beside him and went to sleep.
When I got up in the morning he was not there.
Leaning against the corner in my room was the staff. I picked it up and something went though me.
I felt calm and I knew that he was going to come for me.
I was okay with it.

FLASH FICTION-THE BLUE POET

Hello everyone! Today I have a flash fiction piece. I hope you  enjoy and have a great weekend!

The Blue Poet

I was sitting in the flower garden with my sketchbook. It was a perfect day.
I thought I had seen a blue flash but I thought it was a flower.
But it wasn't a flower.
I felt eyes on me suddenly. I looked out the corner of my eye and I could see the most beautiful blue wings. But eyes?
I went back to my sketch and then I really felt eyes on me. I set the sketchbook down beside me.
He was sitting in another chair in the garden. His blue eyes shone. I held my breath.
A shy smile slowly formed on his face. I kinda smiled back.
"I like your drawings."
"Thank you. Who are you?"
"I'm Sapphire but some call me the blue poet." His voice was as soft as the warm breeze.
I thought maybe I was seeing things but I think he had blue butterfly wings neatly folded behind him.
He came a little closer. "Would you draw me?"
I nodded and picked up my sketch book. The moment felt very surreal. When I looked at his face, I knew he was not like me. Those blue eyes were ethereal and a bit cat like. I sketched like mad trying to capture what I thought was my imagination.
While I sketched he told me a story. It was about a lonely girl who fell in love with a faerie. He took her to his world but she missed her family. He took her back but her family was already gone as so much time had passed. She had no choice but to go back with him. He kept her in a tower made of flowers and ivy. She loved him and she soon forgot who she was. He made her his wife. He smiled at me when he said the last sentence.
I could feel a chill run up my spine. He got a little closer and that's when a big blue jay came flying in and landed on a nearby bird fountain. It made a loud noise.
I heard a flutter of wings beside me. I dropped the sketchbook. The blue jay made another loud squawk.
When I picked up the sketch book, Sapphire was gone but the blue jay was still there. He landed on the ground in front of me.
There was no one around. This time he spoke to me. "Stay away from the blue poet. He steels young girls."
Then he flew up into the air and flew away.
When I looked down at my sketch, I had drawn a butterfly.

FLASH FICTION-QUEEN FOR A DAY

Hi everyone. Today I have a flash fiction piece. Hope you enjoy.

Queen For A Day

He promised her the world for a day. She would be queen over the whole world.
All she had to do was step into his world. It was not a light decision but she did it.
The world changed and people were nice to her and anything she wanted the world gave it to her. There was no hate and that lonely feeling that plagued her for so long disappeared. She turned to him and told him that she never wanted to leave.
He smiled and said that is what they all say.
Even though doubt crept into this world, she shoved it away and dined with the past and the future.
He invited a man they met on the corner street whose name was Henry. He said he was God. He had tea with them.
She didn't think he was God because his eyes were red.
He was nice though and said that she made a nice queen.
He walked with them for a while before they were joined by a young goth girl who was sitting in a outdoor cafĂ© drinking a latte. He invited her to come with them. She said her name was Lilith. Henry kept his distance from her.
They arrived at a glass castle that sparkled like diamonds. They all turned and looked at her. Lilith winked at her.
She wasn't sure what that meant but as she looked out over the world she felt this uneasiness. All she saw was her past mistakes and the loneliness was back. His hand took hers and even though there was fire all around them, his hands were cold.
She looked up at him. "The day is over," he told her.
Lilith came over to her. Henry stayed back. She whispered in her ear.
"Never make deals with a boy with metal teeth."

FLASH FICTION-THE LAST KISS

Hey everyone! Hope your Thursday is going good.  Today we have flash fiction. Hope you enjoy. Have a great weekend.

The Last Kiss

I remember it like it was yesterday. It was fall time.
We were walking down the street towards the park when you stopped me.
You stepped in front of me and I knew you had something to say.
Hearing you say my name gave me goosebumps.
When you said that this wasn't going to be easy, I knew that was probably going to be true.
After taking a deep breath, you said that this would be the last day for us. You were moving away and starting a new life. I nodded knowing this new start was without me.
I asked when this happened.
It had been on your mind for a while you replied.
I felt my insides slide to the bottom. Why did I not see this coming?
The only answer that made sense to me was being too much in love. Was that possible? I think it was for me.
You leaned over and I could smell that all too familiar cologne smell from you and the touch of your hair on my forehead. I inhaled, grasping at all the sensations I could from you. Just to make it last a bit longer.
Your lips were warm as sunshine and as sweet as honey. I wanted that memory to burn onto my skin and wear it like a tattoo.
But like all memories, they soon fade and store someplace safe.
It's been one year since that day.
I don't think of you as often and now I have moved on.
I hope you are okay and safe.

CAT FLASH FICTION-MAX & THE MOON

Hello everyone and happy fall! Today is Cat flash fiction. I hope you enjoy and have a great weekend!

Max & the Moon

It was one of those rare nights. It was late October. Before ghosts and goblins made their appearances.
This was one of those warm nights that smelled like spring. It had rained and it was quite warm out. Everything smelled so sweet.
The sky was every color of orange and the moon beamed through the colors making it large and iridescent.
The wind that had danced during the day stripping the leaves off of the trees, had gone to sleep. Not a peep nor a stir from the wind could be heard.
That is what made the night magical.
The old tree outside my bedroom window stood out like a dark silhouette against the glowing moon. I sat on the window bench and waited. I knew he would come.
It was the creek of the limb that woke me from my dozing. When I looked up I could see him-Max.
That's what I named him. He was a black cat and tonight he was as dark as the night. His silhouette was perfect against the orange moon. Max sat there perfectly still.
It always felt like they had some connection or something. They became as one for a moment in the night.
Max made a loud meow and walked along the tree limb looking down. I wondered if he spied a mouse.
But then he sat up straight and meowed at the moon. I'm not sure he got any answer back but I wasn't sure.
Then he leaped down and I quickly looked down but it was so dark, he blended into the night. I listened for him and I could barely hear him.
These rare nights are so fleeting. I arched my head out the window to see Max.
I was rewarded. He leaped up onto the fence and walked along, briefly turning to my direction. His eyes glowed like the moon before he leaped down and disappeared.

FLASH FRICTION-MIRRORED WORLD

Hello everyone. Happy Fall! Today is a flash fiction piece. Hope you enjoy. I hope soon to announce a Short Stories & Stuff collection that I will be publishing later this year so stay tuned for that. Have a great weekend!

Mirrored world

Not many speak about it but there are some us who are quite curious. Despite the warnings we gather together and talk about them.
When the clouds are big and fluffy like cotton and the water is still is when the other world shows. It's as clear as a bell. It looks like ours but it's not.
It's been called the mirrored world for as long as I can remember. I remember my grandmother and I walking along the river on such a day that the mirrored world reflected bright. She pointed out to the still water and whispered to me as if they might hear. "You never want to talk to them if you see one. They will try and lure you into the water. Stay away on days like this."
I never did see any of them and my friends and I thought that they were just tales so that we wouldn't play in the water.
Anyway, the small lake became a hangout for us teenagers. Some said that they had seen them and they said that they are not that scary. For the most part we took their stories for what they were.
Then one day I went for a walk by myself and ended up at the small lake. I sat down on the grass and looked up at the big  fluffy clouds and the water appeared to be frozen. It actually looked like a large mirror reflecting the clouds and sky.
I was alone in my thoughts when I suddenly realized I was not alone. I thought it was one of my friends but when I sat up, I knew it was someone that I had not met before.
Our town was not that big and for the most part we all knew one another.
A tiny prickle went up the back of my neck.
She smiled at me. He chestnut brown hair with a bit of red shone in the summer day. It was her eyes that captivated me. They were large like glass marbles and as blue as the sky above us.
I couldn't speak.
She kneeled down in front of some wild flowers and started picking these tiny blue flowers. Once she had quite a few she sat down with her legs crossed and started to make a chain with the flowers. I watched her as if she was the only one in the world.
She worked fast and in no time she had a chain of flowers.
That's when I held my breath.
She smiled at me again and her large over size eyes sparkled.
In a blink she was sitting opposite me placing the ring of flowers over my head. They sat on my hair like a crown. She fussed with my hair tucking it there and making a small braid in my hair that she used to secure the flower crown.
I don't know what it was but her touch was so relaxing that I felt my eyes go heavy.
Then I felt this light touch on my cheek.
My eyes fluttered and I could see the clouds moving in the still water.  I looked around and I could not see her anymore.
I came out of my daze and noticed the clouds gathering. It was going to rain soon.
I got up quickly and ran back down the path to home.
When I got inside the house mom looked at me. I didn't quite make it home before the rain.
"What is that in your hair?"
I touched my head and felt the flowers. Mom walked up to me and examined my hair.
"What's wrong?"
She sighed. "Which ever one of your friends played in your hair made a lot of knots and such."
It took mom the better part of any hour to untangle it all.
I never breathed a word about the girl that I met.

CAT FLASH FICTION-TERRANCE & THE GREEN MOUSE

Hello everyone. Today I have some cat flash fiction. Hope you enjoy. Take care and have a great weekend.

Terrance & the Green Mouse

He wouldn't say where he met this green mouse with the pink ears but they sure liked to play together.
They did everything together.
One day in the kitchen, the little pink eared green mouse went missing.
Terrance looked and looked but could not find him. He wondered if he had left.
But he didn't go far. He came out from under the couch. He told mouse tales to Terrance.
He said he had met up with other green mice. Some had pink ears and others had other colors. He said one mouse even had rainbow ears.
Terrance was quite excited about this. He wanted to invite them over so they all could play together.
The little green mouse said that they might come over some day.
The two of them played for a while and then they took a nap.
Terrance twitched and his eyes were moving under his lids.
When the pair of them got up, he said that he had played with the other mice and was quite excited that he had met the mouse with the rainbow ears.

FLASH FICTION-CRAZY DAISY

Hello, hope everyone is fine. Today I have a flash fiction piece. Hope you all enjoy and have a great weekend!

Crazy Daisy

You called me Daisy because I was always tending my camomile flowers. You wanted to know why I cut the bright little flowers off and arranged them on a cookie sheet. Was this some new flower arrangement style?
I shook my head no. I said I'm drying them so we can drink them.
You declared that you would not drink daisy tea.
I sighed. "Well, it's not really daisy tea. It's camomile tea. You've drank this with me before and thought it was very relaxing."
You weren't too impressed by this news. I thought it was funny.
Then you laughed. "Okay, I will have some of your daisy tea with you."
"It's not daisy tea."
You rolled your eyes. "Whatever you call your crazy daisy tea, I don't care as long as it's with you."

FLASH FICTION-SUMMER ROAD

Hi everyone. Hope you are keeping cool these days. We're having a heat wave. Today is flash fiction piece and I hope you enjoy it. Have a great long weekend!

Summer Road

It was a summer road that we just happened to come across on our hike.
We didn't know if we should take it or not.
Maybe it led nowhere or just to the lake. We decided to take it in case it did lead to the lake.
The trees on either side of us closed us in and suddenly our dappled shade walk was shaded completely and we thought this was not going to lead us anywhere.
Just as we were going to turn around someone came out of the trees and stood in the road.
We stopped and stared at them. They looked like a hiker like us but something was off.
He smiled and asked us if we were lost.
Our response was just hiking around and exploring.
Not sure if he believed us or not.
"I can take you to the beach if you like. I was there this morning."
We looked at one another and decided to follow him.
Sure enough we came to a clearing and there was this small beach.
All together we sat and had a picnic. He told us of stories about the lake and the road. He called it the road of dreams.
We asked where did that name come from.
He said travellers like us would find this road and take it to where they thought it would lead.
But we said it would just take them to the lake so they must have been disappointed.
He smiled and said nothing.
After our picnic we headed back down the road to where we came from.
Our friend came with us and when we parted he just disappeared. When we turned to thank him he wasn't there and it felt like he never was there to begin with.
It was a strange feeling.

CAT FLASH FICTION- LIFE IN BLACK & WHITE

Hello again. Hope everyone is doing just fine. Today I have a cat flash fiction piece. Hope you enjoy. Have a great weekend!

Life In Black & White

It's called down time for us cats. It's the best part of the day. The ones that tend to us are off doing something else-until we need them.
I have a nice soft spot in front of large window. The sun warms the carpet for me and makes kneading nice and warm on the pads.
After that I stretch out and start to wash up stretching my hind leg behind my ear and I wash up the fur.
Gotta keep spiffy they say.
I look out the window for a moment and watch some birds closely. They hang around a tree near by.
But then I remember the task at hand and finish up my cleaning.
The best part comes next.
I curl up and cover my nose with my tail tip and drift off into a nice cozy snoozey world.
That's  a word right?

FLASH FICTION-MYSTIC WATERS

Hello everyone! Hope you are all well and happy. Today I have a flash fiction piece and once again in faerie. It's one of my longer pieces and I hope you enjoy. Have a great weekend!

Mystic Waters

I like to come here and rest and gather my thoughts. Even though I'm told not too.
I have never had an encounter with them.
Keeping quiet and not disturbing the surroundings helps.
However, on occasion I know someone is there watching me quietly. They have never approached me or spoken to me. I pretend that I don't know they are there.

This day I sensed something. A prickle ran up the back of my neck. My eyes secretly looked around but I saw no one-until I sat down.
He was in plain sight. Sitting on a large boulder above the rushing water was a faerie.
I held my breath.

They say never to attract their attention but I couldn't keep my eyes off him. His massive brown and gold wings spanned up into the air. He looked magical. There were goosebumps on my arms.
I finally tore my eyes away from him and looked down into the water. That's when his eyes looked over at me.
I didn't dare look up no matter how much I wanted to. I felt my face heat.
He would know that I knew he was here.

All of a sudden he took flight and I startled. I watched him soar up into the air as if he weighed no more than a small butterfly.
I lost sight of him.
He was probably frightened by me.
My chest was pounding and I tried to calm myself.
I was thinking I should get back.

A scent caught my attention. It smelled like wild milkweed. I looked around to see if there was any wild flowers but all I saw was grasses.
I heard a whoosh and I froze.
He was right behind me.
That prickle went racing up the back of my neck this time.

I looked over at the small water fall trying to look like I didn't know he was there or something.
His whisper in my ear felt like a soft breeze brushing up against me.
"These are for you."
I looked down next to my arm and there was a small bouquet of milkweed flowers.
I was scared to touch them.

"It's okay, they won't hurt you."
All I could think of was that this voice sounded human. Was that a trick?
I cautiously took the flowers. My hands shook.
Then he sat down beside me almost touching me. I was still frozen and I don't think I breathed since he landed behind me.

"You can see us. Not many of you have the sight. I'm glad you do."
I looked over at him and he smiled at me. His warm brown eyes made me smile back. They almost looked human but not quite.
"I never knew I could see you," I told him.
"I think you probably had moments when you thought you saw something and then it was gone. It's like that."
Then he said no more and I had no idea what to say.

"You come here a lot."
My eyes widened. "You've been here when I've been here?"
He nodded. "We both like to have quiet time."
His voice was so soft and gentle. My wild beating chest was now calming.
"This place is beautiful," I said. "I can think clearer here."
"So can I." He paused and then leaned a little closer to me. "I think of you sometimes."
"Why do you think of me?"
"Because you're special. I knew you were from the first time you came here. The mystic waters lure you here because you have a special magic inside you."
I grinned. "I have no magic inside of me. I'm just me."
His warm eyes appeared to glow almost. "That's what makes you special. You being just who you are."
I didn't quite understand that. I took it for whatever it was meant to be. I sat quiet with my flowers in my hand.
"Thank you for the flowers."
"You're welcome. Now that we have met you can come here everyday."

I did go everyday or almost. I never told any one about him. They would think I was crazy. Maybe I was. My family and friends thought I loved wild flowers as I always brought them home.
I never said that someone had picked them for me.
Time had a funny way of creeping up on you and one day I knew I would not be back.
I told him I was going away to school and I didn't want him to be sad.

"You'll be back. You can never escape the magic from here. It's apart of you."
I didn't argue back. I just smiled and hugged him.
When I did go away that fall, I knew he was right. The mystic waters flowed through my veins like my own blood did.
I returned when spring break came up. He was there as if he knew.

We both knew that I would become apart of a magical world that no one else knew about.
Every break I had from school was spent here and finally one day I never left.

FLASH FICTION-THE ROAD TO THE OTHER WORLD

Hello everyone. Hope the summer is going great. Today I have a flash fiction piece that touches on my favorite world-faerie. Hope you enjoy and have a great weekend!

The Road to the Other World

It only happens once a year. My friends and I always go even though we are warned not to.
The faerie world is a dangerous one but we made friends with some of them. Asper and Juice are always a good time. They know how to party.
There is a special party the night the road opens to their world.
It's the party of the year!
This time however was a bit different.
Someone knew greeted us. He said his name was Tress and that Asper and Juice were at the party.
He was beautiful.
That should have been a warning. I looked back at the road behind me. It was my world and the one ahead of me was not.
"Come on over, you'll have fun."
I startled. When I turned around he was looking down at me. His bright blue eyes reminded me of the color of bluebells. He smelled like wild flowers.
He smiled and pulled me gently through to the other side.
When I looked back the road was hid by the white fog. I looked a head of me and saw the city of Kat.
My friends were already with Asper and Juice he said.
I couldn't see them and I couldn't remember them coming with me. My mind was playing tricks with me.
I think he had something to do with it.
He led me down a street to the club that we always went to.
The music hit me as soon as he opened the door. I didn't have  a chance before I felt myself in his arms and we were dancing.

Soon I forgot the weird feelings and let the music and him take me.
I remember drinking something cold and fruity. I floated after. When I danced with him I felt like I had wings too. His were beautiful blue ones with white tips.
I reached out and touched them. He closed his eyes and I knew I shouldn't have done that but it was too late.
I tried to come out of it but he twirled me around grinning at me and telling me to have another sip.
It was faerie nectar. I shouldn't have had any.
We left the club and went up a small knoll. We laid on the grass and stared up at the stars. To my eyes they glittered like diamonds and there was zillions of them. Maybe it was my nectar filled mind playing games with me.
Tress rolled over on his side and his lips were next to my ear. He told me that he had watched me for a long time and wanted to meet me.
His words echoed inside my head.
Tress dreamed of me being a faerie and that one magical night he turned me into one. I had wings like him and they were the color of goldenrod.
His words seeped into my head and down my body making me shiver.
"I can make it happen. Once a year you can come here and when you cross over the road to our side, you will be one of us. Your goldenrod wings will shine and we can celebrate and be together."
I heard myself laugh and he looked down at my smiling face. His blue eyes shone like a cat. I touched his face.
Then we kissed.
That is the last I remember.

I met up with my friends and they asked me where I was last night. I told them we went to Kat city. They looked at me funny. Sam pointed his finger at me. "You mentioned that place before and I always wondered what you were talking about."
I looked over at my two girlfriends but they didn't say anything.
I shrugged it off and when Sam left my two girlfriends turned to me. "You are still going there? Even after all the warnings?"
"What do you mean," I asked them.
Ree sighed. "Don't you remember we went there when we were kids and we got into trouble. We never did it again."
I nodded.

It was fall and I was standing in front of the road staring at the fog. How many times have I been here I thought. I tried to remember and the only vague memory I had was  someone taking me by the hand when I was little and we walked through the fog.
I stand there and wait. Tress comes thought the fog as usual with a that smile that I missed so much. He takes my hand and we cross over. I look behind and I see beautiful goldenrod wings.
