Hello! Today's flash fiction is about that other world. Hope you enjoy. The short story is still not finished. Maybe next week. Summer is being busy as usual. Have a great weekend!

The Paths
flash fiction

There were only two paths that led to this world.
You would be wise not take either path. No one had ever said what this world was like or if you even could come back to this one.
Yet many would go half way and see the bright sunny end of the path and would turn around.
Some said you would burn if you got close.
I followed it once.
When I got to the end I did not burn.
It was warm like the sun here. It felt nice.
I stepped across to the other side. There was no fear inside of me.
The world on the other side looked much like our side. There were trees and wild flowers. I could smell the sweet grass and the sun warmed my face.
There was another path on the other side that led down a small hill.
I decided to try going down there to see what was there.
The air was cooler as I was shaded from the large trees that formed a canopy over the small path. Dampness clung to my skin and I could hear water. I figured this path led to a small creek or something and I was right.
I stood and looked over the foliage that was as high as my waist. Then I saw movement.
That’s when I knew maybe I should not have taken this path. I looked back to where the sun cast a narrow beam down the top of the hill where the path began.
I wanted to go back to it so I slowly turned around and started my way back.
Perhaps they saw me anyways.
I didn’t get to far when words that sounded different pulled me around to face who said them.
He was tall, greenish hair and his skin was light brown with brown flecks here and there. From the sides of his head, pointy ears poked out his greenish hair.
It was the eyes that made me mesmerized. They were gold and green and wide like a deer’s.
There was also a small set of horns that protruded out his head.
We stared at one another and then he spoke again to me.
His language was strange and beautiful at the same time.
I pointed to myself and said my name.
He smiled and tilted his head at me. I could hear the jingle of his earrings hitting one another.
My name sounded different when he said it but I knew he said it.
Bravely he came up to me. The smell of the forest filled my senses.
Out of nowhere he held a flower in front of me. It almost looked like a black eyed susan but not sure. He placed it in my hair.
I nodded and turned to go back up the path and he followed me. I kept going without turning around. I never stopped until I got to one of the paths that led back to my world.
Just before I stepped across, I felt a tug on my clothing.
I turned and he pointed to the other path. My foot went to the other path instead.
I looked back at him one more time and then stepped over to my world.
I walked a bit before turning to look back.
When I did, all I saw was the sunny end.
I continued back but stopped.
Before me was a trail of black eyed susans.
I followed them all the way home.

Hello. Hope everyone is keeping cool. Today's flash fiction is where a dreamer lives. Hope you enjoy! I'm working on a short story right now. I may post it later on today or tomorrow. And remember if you want to send me some tea money, there is the tip jar at the end. Thank you.

Where The Dreamer Lives
flash fiction

No one knows his name. I heard some call him Sam and others call him Henry.
I think they just named him whatever they liked.
He lived in a tiny house that sat on the shore of the stillest waters. It was like he lived on glass.
He could conjure up any dream for anyone. I never asked what they had to do for this.
I’m sure there was a cost. No one ever said what they had to pay.
It was like they had to keep it a secret.
My friend was going to the dreamer today. I thought she was brave.
I asked her if she could maybe tell me about her experience. She said she would tell me everything.
I waited for her at the edge of the shore. I watched her go down the long pier to his little house.
It felt like forever before she came out.
I ran to the edge of the pier to greet her. I knew by the look on her face that something was different about her.
“What happened,” I asked her.
She just shook her head and walked past me.
I followed her to the beach where she sat down on the blankets we brought.
I asked again what happened. “Did you get your dream?”
She shook her head and I asked why. She looked over at me and told me that he knew that I would tell you of my experience and that I was not ready for asking for the right dream.
I was surprised and confused.
I looked over at the tiny house. It looked so quiet and even looked like no one even lived there.
“Did you even see anyone?”
Her eyes went wide. “I never seen a face but I felt a presence. I sat down at a small table overlooking the ocean. I sat there and stared out at the ocean and I started to think about what I wanted.”
“What was that,” I asked her.
“Courage for what. You are most confident.”
She smiled. “Thank you but this is something different. I wanted to ask the dreamer for courage to tell someone something.”
“Oh, and you weren’t ready?”
“I guess not.”
“Well, maybe next time.”
We left and the next day I came back, out curiosity mostly. I had to know what she saw.
I took a deep breath and walked the pier. I think I broke out in a cold sweat when I reached the little house.
I almost turned around.
But I didn’t and I opened the door. The table was there like my friend said looking out over the ocean.
When I stepped inside, a young man turned around. I had not seen him.
He smiled and gestured for me to sit at the table. I did.
He sat down opposite me. He looked at me with violet blue eyes. I was not scared.
“I have been expecting you.”
My chest pounded. “Really?”
He nodded. “Yes, you have come because of your friend.”
I nodded but I really didn’t know why I came.
He said that my friend had something to tell me. I needed to be there for them and listen carefully.
“Is there something wrong with her?”
He shook his head. “She is fine but she has a story to tell you. It’s up to you to listen.”
I nodded. “Then I will listen to whatever it is.”
He smiled and was pleased. He got up then and went back to the window to look out. He never said no more.
I got up and left and went down the pier to where my friend was waiting.
“How did you know I was here?”
She smiled. “My dream came true.”

Good day to everyone! Today's flash fiction is about a strong independent queen. I hope you enjoy The Winter Queen's Tree.
There is no short story this week. Hopefully next week I will have a brand new short story for you. Until then Happy reading!

The Winter Queen's Tree
flash fiction

The cold draped down like a heavy froth. The frost was put there by the queen herself.
Anyone who tried to go near the tree would never make it back to where they came from.
She was a wicked queen and she used her cold to rule her realm. It is said that for every rope of frost that hangs on the tree represents a king that she has slain.
No king ever won her heart either. She never trusted love.
Even Jack Frost himself could not woo her. She did not trust him as he was full of mischief. He would freeze her roses stiff. Could never catch him to punish him though.
One day another suitor dare came to woo her. He called himself the north wind king.
She was enthralled by this king. She invited him to her castle and they sat where the view of the tree could be seen.
The sun shone on it this day and made it sparkle like a thousand diamonds.
The north wind king looked out at the tree. “You made that tree and kings before me hand there, is that right?
She nodded. His cold blue eyes looked over at her. “I will not hang there my queen.”
She smiled. “The others said the same.”
He laughed. “I’m not like the others.”
The queen tilted her head at him. “What’s makes you different.”
“I’m colder than you and I have more power.”
“Then why did you come?”
“I want a strong queen by my side.”
Her eyes turned dark like a storm. “I will not stand aside and let you rule. I rule.”
He laughed at her. “Yes, I’m sure you do but…
Before he could finish, she tapped the floor with her staff sending frost up to his chair and onto him. He brushed away the frost and laughed. “That little trick will not do. This is how you do it.”
He snapped his fingers and frost formed in the air taking on the form of white serpents. They hissed and breathed out cold that hung in the air.
She fought back with her own frost that formed a larger dragon.
The king laughed and sent his serpents after her dragon. They destroyed her dragon in no time.
Then he looked at her. “See? I am not weak like those other kings.”
“I see. So, what do you propose?”
He smiled. “Be my queen and you will be the happiest queen in the whole realm.”
The queen tapped her staff. The serpents shattered into a thousand pieces and then their icy shards surrounded the north king forming a cage with him inside.
Now she laughed. “You are right, you have made me the happiest queen in the realm.”
Now the north wind king hangs in his bird like cage in the frost tree.
Someday she said, she will turn them all into little winter birds.

Hope your summer is going great and not too hot. I hope you enjoy a little Vintage Love in this week's flash fiction. Also the last chapter to The Feline Snow Queen is below this. Happy reading!

Vintage Love

You were always different. That’s what I liked about you.
When I received you special invitation, I knew I was in for something different but special.
I replied right away and said I would be there.
The dress had to be perfect and I knew just the place to go. There was a vintage clothing store next to a thrift store. I always went to both places.
I found a flappers style dress. It was mint green in color with silver beads at the bottom. The beads jingled when I tried to dance.
I did my hair in a classic style and painted my lips red.
You told me you were going to pick me up and I knew I would be picked up in something special.
I was right. You had somehow talked your brother into lending you his antique car. I had no idea what kind it was. It was baby blue.
You leaped out and opened the door for me. When you got back in, you handed me a bouquet of roses.
I knew they came out of your mother’s prized rose garden. I wondered you asked.
When we got back to your place, I saw it right away. “Where did you get that thing? Does it work?” “Of course it does. We will dance to it later.”
I was sceptical but I gave you the shadow of the doubt.
You served me tea sandwiches and green tea with cream and sugar.
For dessert, you gave me a strawberry cupcake with a pink rose on top sprinkled with silver sugar. You always called it fairy dust.
I loved your strawberry cupcakes. You were the best baker around.
Finally, we got to dance. You fiddled around with the old gramophone and then to my surprise, it started to play music. I looked at you and you winked as you offered me your hand. We danced to music from another time.
It was lovely.
It made funny noises at times but we kept on dancing.

Here is the final chapter. Hope you enjoy!

The Feline Snow Queen
Part 24

The winter Queen accepted the task. Sieska and Keshar were quite happy that she did. They both laid out some rules and she accepted those as well even though she didn’t like it. They had to be firm with her or they knew she would cause trouble from the start.
It was two days till the gathering in the forest. Keshar had his cats and other cats from Sieska’s clan and Shae’s clan stake out the area for guarding. They had to prepare for the unexpected. Keshar was also prepared to use his magic.
Sieska had received from the queen a list of those who would be attending. The list was impressive. She had rounded up all the courts and even the fox felines. Also, there was a unexpected guest too, the winter king. She wondered what arrangement the queen had made with him for him to attend. Sieska only hoped that it wouldn't be something at their expense. Sieska tried to stay calm but every time thoughts of them all gathered in this clearing, it sent shivers through her and made her paws tingle.
Keshar came into the large room where Sieska was. She noticed how sure he looked in the way his chest was sticking out and his head held high. She grinned at him as he came up and stopped in front of her. “I have good news for once.”
“Well, don’t hold it back, share the good news.”
“All of the fae courts have signed a peace agreement among themselves. That means they won’t be bothering us anymore.”
Sieska’s eyes went wide. “How did that happen?”
“You won’t believe who put that together?”
Sieska shook her head. “I can’t even imagine.”
“It was our feline high queen herself, Shae.”
Sieska almost dropped. “How did she do that?”
Keshar sat down on a cushion and Sieska joined him. “It had to do with the winter queen and her talking to them all and the winter queen trusted her enough to put something together.”
Sieska shook her head. “She amazes me at times.”
Keshar laughed softly. “I know. Maybe it was the kidnapping that changed her?”
All Sieska could do was shake her head. She looked at Keshar. “I wonder what the fox felines think of this or the trolls.” Then another one came into her mind. “And the winter king. I can’t imagine that he would be a part of this peace agreement.”
Keshar sighed. “But he did and you know what I think? He still loves his queen.”
Sieska’s eyes went wide. Keshar nodded. “I think so. Love will do strange things. Even to winter kings.”
Sieska shook her head in amazement.
The day had come and it was a bit of a blustery day. Sieska thought somehow that was perfect considering who was all gathering. A stormy day was perfect for them since they all caused some kind of storms in their past with her. Sieska had received word that the winter queen would be the first to arrive in the forest and she would be the one to greet the attendees. Keshar and Sieska agreed to this. Since the peace agreement was reached in the courts, Sieska thought this would work out for the most part-she hoped.
The guard cats were all in their place in what was now officially Keshar’s territory. Sieska and her closest guard cats arrived. She took the moment to survey the area. The large snowflakes flew around in chaos. She hoped that it was just the snow that would be chaotic and not anything else. This was an all too important day. Then she smelled the air. She was here.
Sieska turned around and coming up in a winged horse drawn carriage was the winter queen. Sieska tilted her head. She was not alone. There was someone sitting beside her. Her eyes grew wide as she soon recognized who her passenger was. It was the winter king.
This feeling came over Sieska. This day was going to be a day of surprises. She only hoped it was for the best.
The winter queen stepped down first followed by the winter king. Keshar and his cats greeted them first. Both bowed to Keshar. Sieska stayed back and watched in amazement. She was quite content to let them carry this out. For once she didn’t’ have to hold things together.
The winter king then waved his hand and a large snowy throne formed. Then he escorted the winter queen to her throne. She looked on with a wicked smile that sent a shiver through Sieska. But at the same time, she couldn’t help but admire her for what she was about to do. The fox felines were the first to arrive. She greeted them and they bowed to her and then to Keshar who was standing by with his cats. They took their place along with everyone else that was on the list that Sieska had read. They all had come. The opening in the forest was full. Right now everyone was on their best behavior. Sieska felt prickles in her paw every once in a while. She wasn’t sure how to take it. She just took a deep breath and took her place with the others.
The winter queen stood up. She held onto her staff that had a white globe on top. She looked over at every one. “Welcome to this forest of Keshar. We have gathered here on this monumental day. As of today we form an alliance to protect what now will be a kingdom that houses all our kingdoms. This kingdom will be known as the Keshar Highland Blue Kingdom. This is named after the ancient ones that Keshar comes from. There are still some of them out there. Let’s hope they will come here. Today we all agree to protect this new kingdom and honor our alliance against any intruders who challenge it. Show me your solidarity!” She tapped her staff and that caused them all to cheer and celebrate. Sieska looked around. That was it? She didn’t make them sign anything? But then she noticed something. There was a blue light that was coming from Keshar and it was rising into the middle of them and towering over them. They all looked up and praised it in their own way.
Sieska looked over at Keshar. Their eyes met. He nodded at her. She nodded in response. A funny feeling came over her.
After the light disappeared, everyone started to dance to the music that suddenly came out of nowhere. Keshar was suddenly in front of her. They stared at one another for a moment. He spoke first. “Come walk with me for a bit.” He led her off to a small path that led to where a small creek ran through. Sieska could hear the gurgle of water. Keshar leaped up and he started to drink the cold fresh water. She leapt up next to him and watched him for a moment. Then silently she bent down and drank too.
After a moment of silence, he nudged her. Keshar leaped down and waited for her. She soon followed. They walked further down this small path. Out the corner of her eye she watched him. He looked back at her. Keshar stopped when they got to another small clearing. “This is a very special day. My mentor back then told me that my magic was going to come to something important. It did. The Keshar Highland Blue Kingdom is now alive. It will grow and prosper with all the kingdoms under it.”
Sieska could feel his pride and she was proud of him. This was a special day indeed.
“There is something else that would make this day even more special.”
“What would that be?”
“For you to be my queen. I mean a Keshar Highland Blue Queen.”
Her eyes went wide. “Are you asking me to be your mate?”
Keshar sniffed and sputtered for a moment. Instead of saying anything, he quickly nodded. She laughed. His expression was one of hope and she could tell he was holding his breath. She quickly nodded back.
“Does that mean…
“Yes,” she laughed. Keshar leaped and bounced all around her like a spring kitten. The snowflakes danced around him and was sticking to his fur. His eyes were wild and feral but beautiful thought Sieska.
“We should get back,” she told him. They walked back and stopped for a moment to watch the festivities. Sieska looked over at Keshar. “Well, we have come a long ways since that gathering I had in my forest where you left me that strange silver ball.”
He let out a huff. “I would say. Do you still have that silver ball?”
“I do believe I do. Why?”
“I gave you that for hopes ones day that you would become my mate. It supposed to have magic in it for love.”
She stared back at him. Then she just shook her head. “Come, let’s share our news with our own cats and then everyone else. Although the first one I would like to tell is our high queen, Shae. She has become special.”
“That we will do then.”
Sieska took a deep breath before they joined the rest. “This is a wonderful day but it will not be easy.”
“I agree Sieska. It will not be easy but we will now have each other as a whole kingdom to support each other. That is a good thing.”
Sieska nodded. “Yes it is. Let’s go find our cats.”
They both bounded toward the gathering.
